Bartonhall Creek

Overview

Positioned beside the river in one of the warmest pockets of Essex, the 14-acre site is planted entirely to Chardonnay. High sunshine hours and the moderating influence of tidal waters create the slow, even ripening that allows Chardonnay to develop fully.

The soils are old river terrace, with gravelly loam over London Clay. The gravel brings warmth and drainage, while the clay helps retain moisture throughout the growing season. Together, they provide the balance and consistency we look for when planting a site for still wine production.

It will be several years before the vineyard reaches maturity, but Bartonhall Creek already feels like a very special site.
